So The Dark Knight is only 113 days away, and you don’t know your Carmine Falcone from your Selena Kyle. Should you be publicly and humiliatingly punished? Probably, but the folks over at ComicMix have paid your bail by creating a really cool list of the ‘Batman’ comics you’ll need to brush up on before heading to the box office.
Their list includes iconic favorites like ‘The Man Who Laughs’, ‘The Long Halloween’, and ‘Dark Victory’ as well as some titles that won’t seem too familiar to the casual fan.
As a major fan myself, I have to say I’m frustrated that I can’t find anything wrong with their list. Even if my fanboy status requires me to disagree just to be difficult, I’ll admit that I agree with every entry on their list. It’s a fantastic primer for the events that lead up to where Nolan and company seem to be taking The Dark Knight.
Noticeably missing from the list is the infamous ‘The Killing Joke’ – the incredible piece of art brought to life by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland. It makes sense not to include it, though, because it tells more about The Joker’s origins which probably won’t be helpful in paving the way for the film.
On a geek side note, it also doesn’t make much sense to buy the recently released hardcover edition of ‘The Killing Joke’ when you can get it included with a ton of other Alan Moore works in the trade paperback ‘DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore” for almost the same price. Unless you really like hardcovers.
