If you are anything like us, you’re currently preparing for Comic-Con International 2009, which takes place later this month in San Diego. And while the official schedule of events won’t be online until next week, we have been receiving a stream of emails from studio contacts and other back-alley scoopers, all telling us what we should be seeing when we’re cramming into the world famous Hall H. That said, it is time for you to get the quick rundown from around the web.
Up first is a new image and information that debuted over on /Film this afternoon from Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming comic adaptation Kick-Ass. According to /Film, the panel will take place on Thursday, July 23 towards the end of the day. Vaughn will be in attendance, along with some of the film’s cast members (to be announced later). At this panel, Vaughn will show off the first ever footage from the film. In anticipation, /Film received an exclusive photo of Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl. Check it out above or give it a click to see the hi-res version.
Next up, our friends at Coming Soon have received an early photo of banners for James Cameron’s Avatar that have begun showing up around the downtown San Diego area. As you may know, Cameron will be debuting the first footage from the film. The footage will likely be shown – extended scenes is what I’m hearing – in 3D, as Hall H will be receiving a 3D tech makeover prior to this year’s event. Check out the banner to the right, which gives us a small look at the Na’vi.
We’ve also received word from the folks behind Mystery Team that there will be a special sneak preview screening of their film on Thursday, July 23rd at 8pm at the Horton Plaza theaters. Attendees will be able to pick up a pass (handed out on a first come, first serve basis) at the Mystery Team booth on the show floor either Wednesday night (preview night) or Thursday. That is highly recommended, as we’re under the impression that the entire Derrick Comedy crew will be in attendance.
MTV has learned that Overture Films will be premiering select scenes for their upcoming sci-fi thriller Pandorum during a panel on July 23, with stars Ben Foster, Cung Le and Antje Traue in attendance.
Warner Bros. announced this past week that they will be bringing a bunch of stuff to the Con, including Megan Fox, Josh Brolin and the first footage for Jonah Hex. They will also be showing 3D footage from Final Destination 4 on Thursday, July 23, as well as show footage from Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, The Book of Eli and the new Nightmare on Elm Street remake on Friday the 23rd.
Also, a little note for all of the Mike Judge fans out there. The director will be bringing footage from his upcoming comedy Extract to the Con on July 25. However, the good news for non-attendees is that MTV will be debuting the footage online at the same time as the panel. No word yet on cast appearances.
And finally, Alex at First Showing is reporting that Shane Acker will be in attendance with not just footage, but an entire sneak preview screening of his CG-animated flick 9. The when and where of this screening are not yet known, but it is likely that tickets will be available on the show floor. We’ll keep you updated for sure.
