Just when you thought countless piss-poor sequels had diluted the Hellraiser franchise to a horchata-like potency, Clive Barker himself has wicked-good news.
Barker (who, Beatles notwithstanding, is Liverpool’s coolest export), recently told Bloody Disgusting that two crazy Frenchmen are about to reinvent Hellraiser for the post-Jim Rose Circus age.
“I had some specific suggestions, which I don’t want to spoil for you or anyone else, about how things might be taken up a notch or two,” Barker said. “And you know S&M just isn’t what it used to be! So if we’re to do the whips and chains and the hooks we have to do them at a whole new level because I think it’s tired material.â€
Enter Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, creators of 2007’s Inside, a movie AllMovie.com refers to as a “daring tale of caesarian terror.”
That’s not “caesarian” in the sense of a yummy oily salad with Parmesan cheese sprinkled all over it. That’s “caesarian” in the sense of babies gettin’ cut outta their mommas’ wombs and shit.
Sounds like Barker may have found just the right pair of twisted kindred souls to help him re-invent the Pinhead.
