Channing Tatum to Produce and Maybe Star in Russo Brothers-Helmed Ghostbusters Movie

For all the people up in arms about the new Ghostbusters movie featuring women as the four leads, you jerks got your way. According to Deadline, there are now also plans for an all-male action-focused Ghostbusters installment, possibly led by Channing Tatum. The actor is actually on board to produce, along with Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd and Captain America: Winter Soldiers directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, who will also take the helm.

This will be a part of a whole new movie universe and branding initiative, so much that Reitman and Aykroyd have a new shingle called Ghostcorp with offices on the Sony lot. This second installment of the reboot will be scripted by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3).

Reitman says the Russos’ movie will build on the first one, but will the all-female team appear? Are they one and then done, because sexism? Reportedly the foundation of the plans for this Ghosbusters universe go back 30 years to the ideas discussed during the development of the 1985 original. “My primary focus will be to build the Ghostbusters into the universe it always promised it might become,” he told Deadline.

Of course, this news is creating both serious outrage and plenty of good humor, such as inquiries into when we’ll get the all-children Ghostbusters and the all-dog Ghostbusters, but hopefully this is all really just a way towards gender unity where there’s a Ghostbusters crossover movie in which there are man Ghostbusters and woman Ghostbusters and it’s not even necessarily an even number of each because it’s not even about that, it’s about it not being a big deal and about everyone having the same opportunities.

Also, I’m hopeful that one day we will see the Filmation Ghost Busters brought into the fold, not because it’s time for the long feud over who are the “real” Ghostbusters to be over, but because there might as well eventually be a talking gorilla who wears a beanie and drives an old jalopy in the Ghostcorp universe.

Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters movie, which will star Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, is scheduled to arrive next summer on July 22, 2016.
