BoJack Horseman Continues Bonding Us By Breaking Us Down

By  · Published on September 14th, 2017

Season 4 doesn’t let up, but it breaks us all together.

“Never have I been so excited to constantly surround myself with sadness.” Editor Nick Cross dives into the newest season of BoJack Horseman, finding happiness and universality in its desperation.

The show’s combination of animal puns and raw emotional need has struck a chord with the internet, finding that sweet spot between hopelessness and cuddly cats that occupies the collective minds of Twitter and Tumblr. Personal journeys run parallel to the show’s episodes and, possibly, together with everyone else’s personal journey that follow similar paths nearby.

There’s solidarity in this messy togetherness and Cross isn’t afraid to get as real and deep as the show, whether in his narration or his tragic dissolves. BoJack continues to wreck us but it’s still trying to teach us what to do after.
