30+ new images continue to raise the bar for visual vibrancy within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It feels a little strange to call Marvel’s Black Panther a colorful movie. That’s not coded language. Compared to other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can already rank it high in its use of vibrant hues, despite the midnight aesthetic of its titular character’s suit. Based on what we’ve seen thus far — both in the trailer below:

And in the images further down the page — it’s impossible to see Black Panther as anything other than a movie that’s alive with style. It’s reminiscent of the colorful, otherworldly visuals from the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. Only this time we’re seeing the Earth-based world of Wakanda, which exists on the same Earth as our other Marvel heroes but exists apart from society. As we know from the trailer, Wakanda is a mysterious, hidden African country with advanced technology, unlike anything we’ve seen in Tony Stark’s arsenal. It’s going to be a fantastic journey into another world that’s still grounded in our reality.

The other reason to be excited about Black Panther, beyond the visual brilliance that Ryan Coogler’s film is promising, is that it will be a contained, character-driven story. From the studio, an official synopsis: “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.”

It will undoubtedly have some larger stakes and easter eggs, but it’s always nice to see Marvel key in on the story of a single part of its world. Especially a world with so much to show us. Check out 30+ new images below and stay tuned, as we expect to hear even more impressions of Black Panther coming out of Comic-Con in San Diego later this week.
