Bale Waiting for Nolan to Take on Challenge of Third Batman

Christian Bale gets it. Making a stellar third installment isn’t going to be easy – but that’s part of the reason he wants to do it. Now, it’s just a matter of getting a certain director on board.

In today edition of Extrapolate the Most Information from the Smallest Amount of Quotes, we’re taking a look at some comments that Christian Bale made to Total Film regarding the next step in the Batman franchise. Also, we’ll be looking for a shorter name for this feature.

To be honest, Bale really does have a lot to say even though he’s a man of few words – at least when he’s not yelling them at a cinematographer:

Will we do a third movie? It’s got to be the right story. You can’t make something like The Dark Knight and then come out with something disappointing.

“I would like it if people say, ‘You’ll never make a good third movie.’ I say, ‘OK, let’s make a third movie in that case, let’s prove them wrong. But that’s just me. The fact is, I have to! I’ve signed up! Chris doesn’t. So I’m in a bit of a fix if he says he doesn’t want to!”

I like that he understand the depth of the challenge facing the crew that’s going to make a third film. It would be nearly impossible to expect the same kind of success that The Dark Knight had (at least commercially), but fans are going to want something just as good if not better. Living up to that challenge might seem an impossible task, but I also love that he’s energetic about facing that challenge head on.

Obviously, the only other information is that Bale is ready to roll when Nolan is. If Nolan is. Currently, the director is working on his sci-fi flick Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio and Marion Cotillard.

What do you think? Could anyone really be up for the challenge of making a third installment?
