Anthony Hopkins Exorcises Your Demons In ‘The Rite’ Trailer

In a film that will eventually become The Rite Stuff when Friedberg and Seltzer spoof the exorcism subgenre poorly, Anthony Hopkins plays the elder Priest giving advice to the younger, doubt-filled one. This is nothing new, but the trailer has the nice sheen of interesting cinematography that makes it seem like the film might be worth that second look.

In the effort of full disclosure, Sir Hopkins has cleansed my everlasting soul of a demon before.

Don’t let that keep you from enjoying the trailer for The Rite:

As stated before, the set up is the oldest story in the exorcism book, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Hopkins actually looks more lucid here than he has in years (and certainly more so than he did in the entirety of Wolf Man), and when he’s on, the man crushes. That alone has me cautiously optimistic with this film.

Plus, exorcism movies are always a great opportunity for filmmakers to make strange objects fall out of uncomfortable orifices, and if you aren’t on board with that potential, the commies have won.

You have to believe in it.
