We pride ourselves on our positivity. We built this little corner on the interwebs to celebrate cinema, and our alegence to that remains firm. That means music is fair game.
Last week, Fall Out Boy absolutely shit the bed with their theme for the new GHOSTBUSTERS film. It is an atrocious piece of ear torture that will leave a taint of failure around everything you do for the rest of the day. It actually makes you ill listening to it. Enter the fine people of Japan to fix this mess.
Four comedians, Tomochika, Oniyakko Tsubaki, Naomi Watanabe, and Shizuyo Yamasaki, took it upon themselves to cover Ray Parker, Jr.’s iconic title track. The result is a neon ride to the cross section of tribute and totally original. Sony: Make THIS the theme song, pretend the other doesn’t exist, chalk it up some kind of supernatural shenanigans. It should have been a cover in the first place, you know it, I know it, and we the fans know it. It’s not too late to make this right.
I am heading in for another listen of this piece of brilliant music, my third of many, many more.
