Animal Kingdom Trailer: An Explosive Trailer for an Explosive Film

Animal Kingdom

The first trailer for Animal Kingdom, the intense and atmospheric Australian crime drama that debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, has hit the web. The film was picked up for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics, and will get an American release sometime this summer. As you will see from the trailer below, it’s a film with some big family drama that gets very messy when things begin to fall apart. Here’s an excerpt from my own Sundance review:

Striking a perfect balance between moments of hyper-violence and gut-wrenching drama, Animal Kingdom proves itself to be a well-rounded, unrelenting thriller that holds tight and squeezes all the way to the final credits. Riding high on strong performances and a director with a strong vision and eye for execution, it is a film that lives up to its title – just as vicious as one might expect from a movie that is constantly evocative of the natural order of things.

Yeah, it’s like that. It’s a damn fine film that will satisfy the needs of both the artistically inclined and the adrenaline junkies, and everyone in between. The performances of Joel Edgerton, Ben Mendelsohn and the bone-chilling Jacki Weaver are the core of the film, but it’s director David Michod’s ability to create atmospheric tension that really drives it home. We get a bit of that in the trailer – and in my opinion, it’s just the right taste. I’m also in love with the placement of Air Supply’s “All Out of Love” in this trailer – absolutely perfect. See for yourselves below.
