The mother-daughter adventure comedy is set for Mother’s Day weekend 2017.
Just last night we brought you word that the mysterious Amy Schumer-Goldie Hawn mother-daughter adventure comedy had been given a name – Snatched – and a release date – Mother’s Day weekend 2017 – and now not 12 hours later there’s a trailer for your viewing pleasure, and bonus: it’s red band as hell.
A brief synopsis: Schumer plays a woman recently jilted by love who convinces her mom – Hawn in her first on-screen role in a decade-and-a-half – to join her on a vacation in South America. All is going swimmingly until one fateful night and one handsome stranger lead to both women getting kidnapped and held for ransom; hilarity naturally ensues. Okay, now check out the trailer:
Kinda feels like Romancing the Stone to me, but with more laughs and a little less sexual tension; this is a good thing. Jonathan Levine (50/50) is directing from a script by Kate Dippold (Ghostbusters, The Heat), which means we can expect this fl-ck to be both side-splittingly uncomfortable and boldly bawdy; the trailer would certainly seem to confirm that.
Schumer has been on a roll pretty much since her Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer debuted, and in the span of the last five years she’s become one of the most dominant and independent female forces in mainstream Hollywood, cherry-picking her projects, retaining creative control, tweaking scripts to her brand, and all while challenging both female stereotypes and male domination of the comedy genre. With Barbie on the horizon, Schumer’s star isn’t fading anytime soon, and Snatched looks like it’s only going to make her shine brighter.
Snatched co-stars include Ike Barinholtz, Joan Cusack, Wanda Sykes, Christopher Meloni, and Goldie’s lip collagen. Snatched opens everywhere May 12th.
