Alden Ehrenreich Confirmed for Young Han Solo

By  · Published on July 18th, 2016

You knew this, but now it’s official.

This past weekend’s big Star Wars Celebration in London wasn’t a rush of huge news about the many installations to come in the world of Star Wars – Episode VIII didn’t get a title, Rogue One only got a behind-the-scenes featurette, and no new projects were announced – but it does sound like it was a lot of fun for Star Wars fans. A celebration, of sorts.

The one thing Disney and Lucasfilm did accomplish was a confirmation of Alden Ehrenreich as the lead in the Young Han Solo movie that’s currently in the scripting phase with The LEGO Movie team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The filmmakers revealed on stage that around 3,000 actors auditioned for the part and that Ehrenreich was the first one they met with. They swiftly apologized to LucasFilm chief Kathleen Kennedy for wasting all that money on the other 2,999.

This, of course, is news you’ve known about for some time. For more on the Ehrenreich casting and the Star Wars Anthology series, read Matthew Monagle’s original write-up below.
