Akiva Goldsman Takes to Directing with ‘Man and Wife’

by Robin Ruinsky

Akiva Goldsman, the screenwriter who penned Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, I Robot, I Legend, to name a handful, is going to direct. He’ll step behind the camera to direct Man and Wife. This will be the first feature film he’s directed, though he’s directed and written episodes of the television series Fringe.

Goldsman won’t be writing this one. He’ll direct from a screenplay by Alan McElroy that Jason Keller is rewriting. The story is about an assassin who is hired to murder a family. Instead he becomes attached to them and complications of course ensue. It sounds like an interesting premise.

The screenwriter/producer and now director is a busy man with a slew of projects in development. Among them is an adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” which is being developed as a trilogy to be directed by Ron Howard. The plan is to create the films and a television series at the same time. The deal is being put together with Universal.

As for Man and Wife there’s no one cast yet. The film is being produced by Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark with Ralph Winter. Dylan Clark worked with Goldsman on Cinderella man.
