‘A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III’ Trailer: Charlie Sheen Loses His Dream Girl

A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III is Roman Coppola’s first film in over ten years. His directorial debut, CQ, was received with a mixed response. It didn’t garner much love, but it’s a really fun movie which goes beyond the average “struggling director” stories. Since then, Coppola’s been keeping busy with his music video and commercial and his frequent collaborations with Wes Anderson. Now he’s finally returned to the director’s chair, with a movie which is exactly what we’d expect from the guy who co-wrote Moonrise Kingdom and The Darjeeling Limited.

Apple launched the trailer today. Take a look:

We spoke to Coppola for Moonrise Kingdom a few months back, and he gave us a detailed synopsis of the film:

“It’s a very playful portrait of a guy going through a personal crisis: his girlfriend breaks up with him, and he does not know how to handle it. He kind of reaches out to his best friend, played by Jason Schwartzman, playing a standup comic, and Billy Murray, playing his accountant. He’s just looking for answers: Does he hate her? Does he ever want to see her again? What did he do right? What did he do wrong? What’s happening?”

Coppola also discussed Charlie Swan’s fantasy sequences, which is what all the Native Americans and espionage sequences are about. They represent Swan’s narcissism, sexism, and all those nice character traits. If this trailer is any indication, Coppola has put his nifty idea and fine ensemble cast to good use.

A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III opens in theaters on February 8, 2013.
