A Confusing Madden Curse Movie Emerges
If you know about the curse, then you know it wouldn’t make a bad premise for a harmless comedy unless that comedy evolved to include an “Indian” love guru played by an old SNL cast member helping Stella get her groove back. If you don’t know about the curse, it’s simple to explain. If you’re a professional football player, and you agree to be featured on the cover of the year’s edition of the Madden NFL game, you will either be beaten with a pipe, abducted by aliens or simply forget how to play football.
Those are the rules. With fame comes a price.
Apparently that price also include EA attempting to develop the curse into a film pitch. Here’s where it gets confusing. According to The Wrap (a website dedicated to wrapping paper and sports video game rumors), the “story will follow a former Madden video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as he finds himself on the corner of the game’s cover – and subject to the curse.”
So it’s a video game player? Why is he on the cover instead of a football player? You can retire from playing video games? Why not make the film about, you know, the curse itself? The questions are endless. Fortunately, the possibilities of the film being made are not. A studio might bite, or they might pass it up because it’s a moronic pitch, and we all know the major studio track record on staunchly denying producers with bad pitches.
