The Trailer for Fifty Shades Darker is Hot Stuff

By  · Published on September 13th, 2016

The latest installment of the Twilight-inspired movie franchise promises steamy scenes and dangerous liaisons.

Sad that summer is coming to an end? Have no fear, the trailer for Fifty Shades Darker is sure to keep you hot and bothered. See for yourself:

In the second chapter of the Fifty Shades series, Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) has broken off her relationship with the young entrepreneur Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) to start a new career at a Seattle publishing house. But the smooth and savvy Christian manages to find a way to get back into her life and when he proposes a new arrangement she cannot resist.

If Miguel’s rendition of the popular Beyonce song doesn’t already make it clear, then the trailer’s fireworks, masquerade party, and a dripping wet shower make-out scene proves the two are crazy in love yet again. But Anastasia is adamant on making no-rules rules for this new arrangement, stating they are to have, “No rules, no punishment, and no more secrets.” From the look of the trailer, these rules are definitely made to be broken.

The film involves a new cast of characters to add to the already dramatic tension of their lives including the mysterious Elena Lincoln (Kim Basinger), who seems to have her eyes set on Christian, creepy stalker Leila Williams (Bella Heathcote), and creepy dude Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson).

Directed by series newcomer James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross, Perfect Stranger) with a script penned by Niall Leonard, husband of the Fifty Shades series writer E.L. James, the film looks to give audiences more of the same shocks and awes as the first film but perhaps with a tinge more danger and darkness than before.

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele (Universal Pictures).

Fifty Shades of Grey started as a piece of Twilight fan fiction penned by E.L. James. After receiving much online attention, she worked the stories into a series of erotic romance novels. The books were released in 2011 and 2012 to popular demand. The first film of the series, Fifty Shades of Grey, made a whopping $571 million at the worldwide box office on a reported budget of $40 million. The film remained successful despite a painful press tour and rumors of the two leads supposedly hating each other and the series itself.

Regardless of what their stars think, Universal Pictures and the films’ producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are likely banking on this second film to do the same business if not more. The darker shade of danger and intrigue may be just enough to captivate its fanbase when the film drops on Valentine’s Day 2017. Try and keep it to yourself until then, will you?
