Listen To Time’s People of the Year: ‘The Silence Breakers’

time people of the year

Likely the most important video essay of the year, looking forward to next.

One of the main takeaways from the year will be the collapse (or the beginning of the collapse) of toxic patriarchal industries and their sexual abuses. Power structures are collapsing and as film fans, we are at the center of it. We may not be directly responsible, but turning our heads makes the problem worse. Now we have the ability to give back, to listen.

“For giving voice to open secrets, for moving whisper networks onto social networks, for pushing all of us to stop accepting the unacceptable, The Silence Breakers are the 2017 Person of the Year.” These are the women and men (thanks Terry Crews) working to change the paradigm of entertainment and all other male-dominated industries.

These intimate conversations are the follow-up sessions to the groundbreaking accusations and courageous solidarity these victims brought to the conversation. It’s the least we could do to listen to them, as fans, as participants, and as those who will continue pushing the industry forward.
