TV Review: Terminator: SCC – To the Lighthouse

The Sarah Connor Chronicles

The Sarah Connor Chronicles, FOX, Airs Friday 8/7c

Episode: “To the Lighthouse” (Season Two, Episode 20)

Synopsis: In order to keep John safe, Sarah calls on an old friend – former boyfriend Charley Dixon – to keep him in a safe house. Sarah also seeks help for herself with a suspected cancer scare. Meanwhile, Cameron tells Derek the secret pregnancy that Jessie had kept from him in the future. And John Henry finds himself in peril when an unknown entity sends a message through the security measures and possibly trips his original programming.

Review: Like last week’s episode of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, this one was a bit of an upturn from previous installments. Sure, there was a bit of whininess with Sarah about her cancer scare, and it was clear that John still hasn’t grown the stones that he’s gonna need to lead the future resistance. However, there were some nice elements to this show.

First, I thought it was actually nice to see Cameron and Derek interact, since both of them have burned out interacting with John. And Sarah was given a chance to show her lighter side (loved the “bug slug” game in the car) as well as be proactive in her fight rather than staying home and feeling sorry for herself. I’m not sure the flashbacks to Sarah and John in the jungle worked, but I’ll forgive that little diversion.

Finally, the entire episode was paced pretty well. It actually managed to juggle several storylines, making them pertinent to each other. Cameron and Derek’s angle turned into the subplot with Sarah. And we saw some significance to Charley’s appearance.

However, the best part – as seems often to be the case – is when we got a glimpse into the danger of downloading John Henry’s intelligence into a Terminator. Sure, this seems to fit right into the Garbage Terminator’s end game, but there might be something else in play here. The bottom line is that I am very eager to see what comes of John Henry’s breech and how it fits into the big picture.

Still, I will say that in the history of the show, this is quite possibly the dumbest name of an episode yet…

Up Next: John gets closer to the SkyNet origins while Sarah reunites with Ellison and he learns the truth about the Garbage Terminator.
