Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica, SciFi, Airs Friday 10/9c

Episode: “Blood on the Scales” (Season Four, Episode 16)

Synopsis: The military coup led by Felix Gaeta and Tom Zarek spins into high gear. President Roslin has escaped to the Rebel Cylon Baseship, and she is creating problems by beaming transmissions of support for Admiral Adama to the rest of the fleet. Meanwhile, Apollo and Starbuck are gathering support throughout Galactica with hopes of taking back the ship.

Review: I have to admit that there’s a certain part of me that is nervous that the other shoe will drop with Battlestar Galactica in the coming weeks. After all, can they continue to make shows this intense and powerful for the rest of the season? Let’s hope so.

Sure, the return of the series a few weeks back was a bit soft, but things have gotten intense really fast. This episode was probably the most exciting and nail-biting yet. Certain undercurrents of the overall plotline have developed fully, showing the human’s animosity to all things Cylon and how differences of political opinion in this universe can turn awfully violent.

Also, the show Battlestar Galactica has managed to tackle issues from our own world and put them into a relatable context. It shows how bloody and messy a coup can be. It also shows how gaining the control of a power structure does not always ensure that everyone beneath you will fall in line.

This episode was mostly about Gaeta and how he deals with his recent decisions. Zarek plays close to the center of the stage, but we all know what he has been about for years. Richard Hatch should count himself among the lucky to have such an awesome character when his original Apollo was such a nancy boy.

Overall, the rebel Cylons have been holding back a bit for several episodes, but that’s gonna change in a week or two, I’m sure. I still don’t trust them completely. I’d rather have the Galactica-loyal Cylons (e.g., Tigh, Sharon, Tyrol and Sam) on my six.

The adrenaline was running for me with this episode. I’m intrigued to see how the characters pick up the pieces in the coming weeks and how this whole dog and pony show ends.

Up Next: The return of the last Cylon. Do you think Tigh’s gonna get drunk in this episode?
