Review: Warehouse 13 – Secret Santa

It’s Christmas at Warehouse 13 and Myka and Pete are all packed and ready to spend the holiday with their families, but when Arty gets an artifact alert in LA everyone’s Christmas plans must be put on hold to investigate a case of Bad Santa.

Claudia and Joshua will also take a trip to Pennsylvania to find Arty the perfect Christmas present, but what they find will be worth far more than the money in their wallet.

So sit back, find your nearest bag of purple goo, and enjoy the Warehouse 13 Holiday Special.

What worked: This was an absolutely adorable episode of Warehouse 13. Everything just seemed to click, and because it’s a holiday special, the overly upbeat writing really didn’t bother me at all.

First the well done stuff. The actual artifact story line was not bad. The myth of Santa is something that fits so perfectly into the Warehouse 13 mythos, that I’m actually surprised that it took this long to do an episode centered around him. It also helped that the artifact victim actually shared some screen time with the duo. Usually they have to work in secret to the victim, but this time everyone was on the same page.

I also liked the dynamic of Arty and his father. We know very little about Arty’s family beyond the Russia stuff, so it was nice to have this expansion added to his character.

Now, on to the awesome stuff and I have one word… yup, you guessed it, Claudia. This might be one of the best episodes Claudia has ever been featured in. Every single one of her one-liners was dead on. And I couldn’t help but crack up every time she got all squeaky with Christmas cheer.

What also added to her character was her brother Joshua. The dynamic between the two of them is something that we have never seen before. Usually whenever Joshua shows up, something is happening to him and there isn’t much time for brother/sister interaction. But all the various gag moments like:

Joshua: You’re going to hell
Claudia (in a squeaky voice): I know!

Or how about this gem after Claudie lies to Arty to cover up the lie she told his father:

Claudia: Arty, he’s dying.
Joshua (walking down the stairs just as she says it): Holy mother of god!

It’s writing like this that makes me tune in every week, and I really hope there is more Claudia/Joshua interaction next season.

What didn’t: Just one thing, this episode makes absolutely NO SENSE in the series’ continuity. As we all can recall, Myka quit as a warehouse agent in the season 2 finale, so why she is here boggles my mind. I was actually really looking forward to Myka less episode when I heard about this. But, what can you do.

Final thoughts: An absolutely adorable episode of Warehouse 13.

Episode: “Secret Santa” (Season 2, Episode 13)
