Working Title Hopes You’ll Want to Read ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ Again

Coming off of the awesome news that Working Title had to lay off 6 of its employees (which was 13% of its workforce), the company is announcing that it’s dipping back into the well with yet another installment in the Bridget Jones’s Diary franchise – bringing the number up to three.

Apparently Bridget still hasn’t found love.

The good news, if there could be such a thing, is that Renee Zellweger will be reprising the role, most likely putting on more pounds (13% of her body fat). So, at least there’s brand consistency. According to Variety, the story might revolve around a story that finds Bridget in her 40s, hearing the deafening roar of her body clock to make a baby as soon as possible. I’m sure it will have an awesome message for women.

All negativity aside, I can’t say that the film series is all that awful. It’s just really odd to hear it cropping back up again. The last installment came out in 2004, and with production starting sometime near the end of next year, it’s clear that the third film won’t be released until at least 7 years after the sequel. As we’ve learned from our study in threequels, that’s a really bad recipe.

No writer yet. No director yet. Just word that they want to make it.

But…
