On the heels of this week’s Toronto International Film Festival lineup announcement (one we’re still salivating over), the Venice International Film Festival has thrown their hat in the fest ring with their own roster of films. The festival features a couple of surprises – stuff like Brian DePalma’s Passion (a remake of Alain Corneau’s Love Crime), Brillante Mendoza’s Thy Womb, and Spike Lee’s Bad 25, but no other film on the list is quite as exciting, confounding, and weird as Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers. James Franco strikes again. Also on the list are a number of TIFF repeats like Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder, Robert Redford’s The Company You Keep, Ariel Vroman’s The Iceman, Ramin Bahrani’s At Any Price, and Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist (which will serve as Venice’s Opening Film). The festival has not yet announced its Closing Film – could it possibly be Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master which was reported to be a part of Venice (apparently mistakenly) earlier today? Or will our boys at Fantastic Fest get the great honor of a PTA premiere? Only time will tell. Check out the full lineup for the Venice International Film Festival after the break, thanks to their official site and The Playlist.
