The Bicycle

The Bicycle Short Film

Why Watch? Tackling life’s big questions without a helmet, The Bicycle from Chris McCoy and Adam Neustadter does a fantastic job of imbuing an inanimate object with humanity and pathos. Part of that is due to the writing, which nails down the poor bike’s existential crises with poetic confidence and a distaste for cliche, but a big factor is Matthew Waterson, who voices the two-wheeled hero. His smashed-whiskey-bottle voice brings a heaviness to everything that balances the high-minded philosophy and blends with the absolutely pristine cinematography. Calling a bicycle world-weary seemed strange before seeing this short, but it’s true. This bike has seen some shit. A gripping urban overture, McCoy and Neustadter have taken a silly concept and transformed it into something profound. And probably profoundly silly.
