SCUMSUX

The Best Short Films

Why Watch? This lyrical short from SCUMSUX is either about suicide, sex or both. Or something entirely different. As a young man (J.D. Hirst) preps a buried pair of garden shears to fall onto, he’s interrupted by a young woman (Remy Lacroix) who floats in like a vision, a body in constant motion. She pitches her hips to keep a hoola hoop spinning, goes full Lolita with clinging cotton in the spray of a garden hose and rides the young man in a hammock while bubbles seem to spring out of where their pelvises meet. That coupled with an intense score and vivid (often slow motion) camera work, creates a surreal scenario out of a lot of everyday images. It’s the sensuality of a last fling making the unforgiving blade much easier to take. The contradictions abound. Innocence and pain, calm and intensity, sex and suicide. What will it cost you? Only 2 minutes. Skip work. Watch more short films.
