Drinking Games

If you’ve had a chance to see Seth MacFarlane’s Ted in the theaters, you have been introduced to the awesomeness that is the 1980 film Flash Gordon. Of course, all of us cool kids have already seen the movie many times before, and the coolest (read as: oldest) of us actually saw it in the theaters. If you haven’t seen Flash Gordon yet, then shame on you. How could you let this glorious camp masterpiece slip you by? You need to watch it and broaden your cinematic mind. If you have already seen it, then revisit it on DVD or Blu-ray because we can all use a little more Flash in our lives.

The Muppets Musical Numbers

One of the mainstays of the Muppet world is their love of music and over the years they have put their Muppet “spin” on a number of popular songs. The soundtrack for the newest film (The Muppets) continues this trend with Camilla and the Chicken’s version of CeeLo’s “Forget You” and the Muppet Barbershop Quartet taking on Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The Muppets never just cover these songs; they incorporate their crazy antics and sometimes even change up the lyrics making the song their own. Although the Muppets have their own band (shout out to Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem) it never stops the rest of the crew from getting in on the musical action.

This week, on a very special episode of Reject Radio, Going the Distance screenwriter Geoff LaTulippe (pronounced “La Tulip”) stops by to share his xenophobia, puff on his pipe a little harder, and tell his personal story of getting his first screenplay sold and produced all from the comfort of his living room couch. We also find time to review Easy A, Devil, and The Town.

Sacha Baron Cohen Mercury

Every once in a while there’s a bit of innovative casting that fits perfectly. Queen front man Freddie Mercury, the greatest vocalist in rock history (with second place going to Steve Perry from Journey), is finally getting the biopic treatment, and he’ll be played by Sacha Baron Cohen. No word yet on whether he’ll be singing or whether old recordings of Mercury will be in use. Seeing Cohen as Borat, this seems like a strange move. Keeping in mind Cohen’s range (and general appearance), this makes more sense than it should. The project is being produced by GK Films, and they’ve hired Peter Morgan (who wrote The Queen, appropriately enough) to pen the script. [Cinema Blend]

We keep an eye on remakes in development so you don’t have to, and there are a lot of them. You might be a major fan of this latest victim of the re-creation machine, but try not to lose your head over it.
