In what is presumably not a remake of the thrilling, John Ritter-starring made for TV movie “The Colony,” director Patrick Tatopoulos has signed on to helm a new project that has the same name.
According the Heat Vision, the movie will focus on “a group of survivors forced underground by the next ice age. There, they must fight to preserve humanity against a savage threat.”
I’m hoping that savage threat will be Rhona Mitra with fangs. Or without.
Of course, despite directing the dark, moody Rise of the Lycans, Tatopoulos is still most well-known for his intensely realistic creature designs. This sounds just generic enough to work, but it leaves me wondering where that leaves the status of I, Frankenstein.
Not only does that sound like a fresher idea, but Kevin Grevioux is reportedly writing the comic adaptation and, as you probably know, is a huge comic geek. It’s nice to see a writer who cares about the characters, and it’s even better to see a writer who houses them in a giant collection that make you wonder if he loves comics more than his wife.
Also, if it’s the next ice age in The Colony, just how far into the future is it? 2019?
