Mike Judge Headed Back to the Office

Few comedians have gotten the shaft like Mike Judge has. Despite producing a ground-breaking cartoon series in “Beavis and Butthead”, creating another that every single human finds funny with “King of the Hill” and becoming the come-from-behind king with Office Space, Judge still gets no respect.

Few comedians have gotten the shaft like Mike Judge has. Despite producing a ground-breaking cartoon series in “Beavis and Butthead”, creating another that every single human finds funny with “King of the Hill” and becoming the come-from-behind king with Office Space, Judge still got no respect when creating and promoting his last venture, Idoiocracy.

So it’s no surprise that he’s ventured out and created his own production shingle with brothers in arms, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. And it looks like one of their first projects out of the gate is going to be Extract, starring Jason Bateman.

Variety, in a line straight out of the press packet, claims that the project, “explores what it’s like to be the boss when everything seems to be shifting around you.”

On any normal news day, we’d leave it at that, but doesn’t that sentence make it seem like Judge is headed back to the 9-to-5, stiffer-than-thou, dash-filled world of corporate suits? Can one safely assume he’s diving back into a white collar work area? A cubicle zone? An “office space”, if you will?

If I can read far too deeply into a vague statement (and I can), it seems like Judge plans on exploring the other side of the corporate ladder – placing Bateman in a position of power and watching things slowly erode away. Perhaps he’ll still be sticking with print media while the world of Web 2.0 and viral marketing pass him by. At this point, I’d trust Judge just to explore plain ineptitude and make it hilarious.

Obviously, there’s still a lot of blanks left to fill on this one, but I’d be willing to bet that FSR readers in the Austin area should gear up for production trucks and the chance to be an extra real soon.
