Mark Hamill used his Jedi mind tricks to make us forget the date for a new The Last Jedi trailer drop. It didn’t work.

Fans are chomping at the bit for new information about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We haven’t heard anything in so long it is hard to imagine that this movie is due out in just a few months. The last trailer we saw was from the Star Wars Celebration in April. That feels like a lifetime ago.

Well, it would seem that Mark Hamill is tired of waiting for that new trailer as well. When asked by a fan when we can expect new footage from Episode VIII, Hamill tweeted back, “Watch Monday Night Football on October 9th- for no reason in particular.”

The tweet has since been deleted and Hamill has followed up with,

It would seem that troopers from The First Order got to the old Jedi Master and had him change his story.

Even though the information has been deleted, it makes perfect sense for the new trailer to appear during a football game. Disney has used this method before to boost the ratings of a particular show, as long as that show appears on one of their owned networks like ABC or ESPN. Monday Night Football does air on ESPN so that would be a perfect opportunity to drop the new trailer.

Disney seems to be following in the footsteps of what made The Force Awakens such a big success. That is to not release endless amounts of footage and details until they absolutely must do so. It’s a luxury of having a property such as Star Wars that needs no amount of publicity or build up to have audiences show up in countless droves. Through the release of toys, we have learned quite a bit about new characters that are joining the fray in this newest Star Wars picture. We have learned of BB-8’s evil doppelganger, BB-9E, that is a darker version of everyone’s favorite robot.  We’ve also had more glimpses of the weird creatures know as Porgs. Director Rian Johnson recently referred to a group of Porgs as a Murder. We’re going to take that as an official designation.

We’ll probably see a lot more of the Porgs and BB-9E when the trailer to Star Wars: The Last Jedi drops on October 9th. The film is scheduled for release on December 15th.
