Julianne Moore ready to take on the role of a feminist icon.
The time is right for a picture about feminist activist Gloria Steinem. It’s certainly a tall order for the right actress to play the part, but it seems like the June Pictures film has found the perfect choice. Deadline reports that Julianne Moore has signed on to play the part of Steinem in My Life On The Road. Steinem has been a prominent spokeswoman for the American feminist movement since the late ’60s. Julie Taymor, who has directed the musicals Lion King and Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark as well as the movies Across the Universe and Frida, will be directing the picture.
Playwright Sarah Ruhl will be writing the screenplay based off the memoir by Steinem. The movie will work as a coming-of-age story detailing Steinem’s earliest days on the road and how she keeps going with a movement that has seen drastic changes in the years since she begun. The book also showcases many of the political moments she found herself being apart of, which just so happen to me some of the most important moments of our time.
Julianne Moore has also done her best in the face of adversity and definitely considers herself a feminist. In an interview with HuffPo, Moore was asked a few questions about feminism. “Absolutely I consider myself a feminist,” Moore told HuffPo. “I think a feminist is the same thing as a humanist. A feminist is someone who wants gender equality and I think that’s important for all of us right now.” She also said that people recognizing gender equality is a thing is a big step in the right direction. Moore can currently be seen in George Clooney‘s Suburbicon and Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck.
