Cheech and Chong

The Bling Ring

It’s almost time for sunscreen, something you won’t need to purchase if you plan on staying in the cool, dark space of the movie theater from June through August. But what are you going to see? How could you possibly know what’s coming out and when? Did you even know there’s a Superman movie on the way? Of course you did. Geoff and I have combed through studio press releases, had a lot of secret meetings in parking garages, and decided to talk about 6 Limited Release Summer Movies that might have slipped under the cape-filled radar. Plus, our big interview is with Cheech and Chong, who review Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines and promise to make Up in Smoke 2 if their new animated movie makes $100m in its opening week. For more from us on a daily basis, follow the show (@brokenprojector), Geoff (@drgmlatulippe) and Scott (@scottmbeggs) on the Twitter. And, as always, we welcome your feedback. Every day, come rain or shine or internet tubes breaking, Film School Rejects showcases a trailer from the past. Can you imagine a trailer today talking so explicitly about weed use? Showing it? Showing its effects? Showing how fun it is? This trailer for Cheech and Chong‘s first feature film does two things really well. One, it compares them to Abbot and Costello, and Martin and Lewis. Two, it makes a ton of puns about smoking pot and getting high. Seriously. Don’t go straight to see this movie. Check out the trailer for yourself:

Circle of Jerks

You’ve stumbled upon Circle of Jerks, our sporadically published, weekly feature in which we ask the questions that really matter to our writers and readers. It’s a time to take a break from our busy lives and revel in the one thing that we all share: a deep, passionate love of movies. If you have a question you’d like answered by the FSR readers and staff, send us an email at You guys were probably too busy watching “The Dark Knight” again to notice we had an election, but it was a pretty huge night that led my roommates and I into a discussion social change and movies. Question time: What movie actually changed your mind about a social or cultural issue? Thanks. – Ted F.

We talk to Cheech and Chong about what a long, strange trip it’s been to 2010, what’s next, when we’ll see another Cheech & Chong narrative movie, and other various weirdness.
