And Soon the Darkness

The week between Christmas and New Years is historically a busy one for many people as they hustle and bustle their way between stores, parties, and vacation destinations. The home video market recognizes this and responds with probably the lightest week of releases of the entire year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some winners worth bringing home… even if it just temporarily. Titles out this week include The American, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Merantau, Twelve, and the very funny first season of the FX network’s animated spy spoof Archer.

Now that Christmas is over, those of you who partake in the getting of gifts from relatively clueless relatives may have emerged victorious with gift cards to delightfully under-stocked retail stores. What will you do with said gift cards? Will you buy something to put into that shiny new Blu-ray player you also received from Santa (I know you still believe!)?  Unfortunately for many of you, this week’s round of Blu-ray releases isn’t quite as fruitful as one would hope for the week after the big holiday. But I’m sure if you come along with me on a little journey, you might find something worthy of your time and magnetically-striped money.

The Reject Report

The weather has turned cold, the end of the year is soon approaching, and the last bastion of Holiday films are coming our way. This week, we have a number of dollar-earner pictures hitting as well as a couple of heavy awards contendors expanding into wide release. The light cycles are sure to have an edge over a couple of talking bears, especially since one of those bears sounds a bit like Ray Stantz. The other bear isn’t exactly bringing sexy back, but he might be cute enough to pull in some decent money.

Your time is valuable. I understand that. But we have a trailer for you to watch for a film you’ve probably heard absolutely nothing about. And to make matters worse it’s a remake. But what if I told you this particular new film stars Amber Heard, Odette Yustman, and Karl Urban? That’s two attractive ladies and Bones McCoy right there. What if I added in the fact that two of those actors, the ones without penises, spend part of the film in tiny bikinis? Plot and pedigree don’t even matter anymore do they? I didn’t think so. You people are perverts. And I love you for it. So with no foreknowledge of what this film is about go ahead and watch this new trailer for And Soon The Darkness…
