That ‘Y: The Last Man’ Movie May Finally Have Friends In High Places

Y: The Last Man Movie May Someday Be Made

Take this news with a hefty grain of salt.

If Vulture‘s “well placed sources” are to be believed, an adaptation of Y: The Last Man may finally be heading towards production with New Line Cinema. The studio first optioned Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra‘s popular comic book way back in 2003, but a steady series of false starts followed with directors and stars attaching then detaching themselves from the project.

That’s not entirely a bad thing though seeing as two of the more recent names included DJ Caruso and Shia “Look at my serious penis!” LaBeouf. David Goyer, Zachary Levi, Louis Leterrier, and Alicia Keys have also been mentioned in various capacities.

The story follows the adventures of a young man and his monkey (not a euphemism) who find themselves the last surviving male mammals after a mysterious plague decimates every other creature on Earth with a twig ‘n’ berries between its legs. Yorick Brown is hoping to discover the cause of the plague, but he can’t avoid being caught up in the shenanigans of a female-led world. Can you imagine? I haven’t read the comics, but you’d think being the last human male on a planet filled with ladies would be lovely.

There’s no new news here other than the slight promise that big-wigs at New Line are moving the property to the front burner. If true, we should be hearing news of new script work (on top of the recent revisions by Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia), interested actors, and possible directors any day now.
