Over the weekend, FSR reader Josh L. dropped me a link to what he called “a very cool animated mashup” that paired the upcoming action barrage The Expendables with some of the most beloved animated characters of the modern era. It was also said to involve characters from Shrek. That’s what makes it topical.

After giving it a look, I’ve decided that it’s worth sharing. Created by YouTube user HollywoodStreams, this mash-up takes the trailer for The Expendables and animated characters that you’re sure to recognize. I give them a pass for the amount of effort that surely went into the creation of this two and a half minute video. See for yourself below.

Also, if you’re wondering which characters are which Expendables, here is the cast list. I always pictured Astro Boy as a Randy Couture-esque character.

  • Sid from Ice Age as Jason Statham
  • Manny from Ice Age as Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Shrek as Stallone
  • Puss in Boots as Terry Crews
  • Astro Boy as Randy Couture
  • Mr. Fredrickson from UP as Mickey Rourke
  • Russell from UP as Jet Li
  • Woody from Toy Story as Bruce Willis
  • Gru from Despicable Me as Eric Roberts
  • Pigeon from Bolt as Giselle Itié
