War Machine Unleashed: A New Iron Man 2 Poster

Since seeing Iron Man on the cover of Empire Magazine last week, we’ve been jonesing for more looks at Iron Man 2. It’s likely that you’ve been doing the same. Never fear, friends, as the marketing machine has heard your prayers.

Yahoo has debuted a brand new poster for Iron Man 2 that features not only the film’s hero, but his brother from another mother, War Machine. Aside from the momentary glance in the leaked Comic-Con footage and various concept art leaks, we have not yet seen the final version of Col. James Rhodes’ (Don Cheadle) favorite mode of transportation. In the poster (found below), we see the clear differences. War Machine is based on the Mark II suit built by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the first film, but has been upgraded by Rhodes in partnership with crazy Stark rival Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell).

Speaking of Downey Jr., there is more news today that supports claims that the star was deeply involved in the writing of the sequel’s script. “Robert [Downey Jr.] is a real partner in the process,” said director Jon Favreau in an Empire interview. “He’s been very involved in the screenplay. When he went away to do Sherlock Holmes he was still part of our creative process. Even in the first film, where he was originally a hired gun playing the role, he really stepped up to rewrite scenes – he’s a great writer, too. So we really are sharing the responsibilities.”

One more note before you get to the poster — assuming you haven’t skipped ahead already — is that Geek Files is reporting that they’ve got a concept drawing look at the final suit of Whiplash, played by Mickey Rourke. The art features many of the elements seen in early images, but with the addition of armor and a mask. Looks cool.

And now, the poster. Iron Man 2 is in theaters May 7, 2010.
