Alice Eve and Hayley Atwell

Last week our secret phone line upon which we receive news tips and order pizza was ringing off the hook about Captain America. Sure, the title role had been given away to Chris Evans, who we’re all sure will do a fine job with his newfound workout regiment. And the role of Bucky was given to Sebastian Stan, who we’ve only seen in passing on Gossip Girl. But there is one more very important role that is yet to be filled: that of Steve Rogers’ special lady friend Peggy Carter.

As of last week, there were three fine ladies in the running. The most prominent of which were Brits Keira Knightley and Emily Blunt. Both have dropped out of the running in recent days, for various schedule and monetary reasons. Now it looks like two other ladies of lovely accents are testing for the role. British born actress Alice Eve (above left), who was seen recently in the Paramount comedy She’s Out of My League, appears to be the frontrunner. And fellow Brit Hayley Atwell (above right), who you may know from AMC’s The Prisoner or The Duchess, is her main competition. This was delivered in a report from E! Online today, along with word that both actresses will be participating in their second screen test sometime this week in London. Chances are that we should know very soon.

Who do we like, friends, for the role of Peggy Carter?
