The Curious Case of Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand’s Road Trip

If there’s one thing in life that I’ve always wanted to see, it’s a dog walking on two legs, wearing a bowler and aiming a gun at my friend Geoff. But if there’s two things that I’ve always wanted to see, it’s the dog thing and a movie where Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand pair up to go on wacky adventures. Seriously. I wrote it down on a list that’s hidden under my pillow.

Now, as if some Hollywood types went snooping around under my pillow, it appears as if it’s possibly possible that Rogen and Streisand may in fact be on the road to co-stardom.

Drew over at HitFix was able to talk to Rogen about the project called Mother’s Curse, and it looks like, according to Rogen, it’s “one of the many projects [he] may or may not do in the next fifteen years.”

Not a rousing announcement, but it’s sort of fascinating that this sort of thing is even on the horizon (or a glint in the eye). It’s refreshing actually. The last movie I can think of where a decently major star decided to pair with an older matriarch for laughs is Stop or My Mom Will Shoot, a movie that was robbed in nearly every Oscar category.

Even so, I think it’s important that the storytellers realize there’s more out there than the formulas we’ve been seeing over and over again. Two guys (one that doesn’t play by the rules and one that does) are getting together for laughs? Hilarious. Yes, it works from time to time, but how cool would it be to see something legitimately different come out of the factory? When I interviewed Rogen back for Observe and Report, he mentioned that he and writing partner Evan Goldberg always attempt to look at what hasn’t been done, and attempt to write it. I can’t agree that they always hit the mark, but it’s nice to know that they are working from that angle.

Rogen is currently working on The Green Hornet with Goldberg and most likely daydreaming about road tripping with Streisand while Michel Gondry attempts to give him notes on the script.

What do you think? Would you go see a movie where Rogen teams with Streisand? You know her – she’s the one in all those movies you pretend not to know (or love) because you think they make you look feminine, but in actuality they are mostly all really solid films.
