Star Wars

We all know what time it is, people – it’s time for our daily Star Wars: Episode VII rumor! While this week’s other rumors have centered on people possibly wanting to get involved with the project (namely, that director Colin Trevorrow might helm the project and that screenwriter Michael Arndt is probably a lock to script it), today’s is all about people who are not interested in signing their lives away to Disney’s latest endeavor. And, man, are some of these people being harsh about it.

To wit, the project’s “maybe-director” list has been rumored to include names like Trevorrow, Brad Bird, Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Matthew Vaughn, and many more, but at least three possible helmers have now taken various opportunities to talk about how not interested they are in the project. Who’s out? Let’s find out.

First up, Zack Snyder. The LA Times reports (via ComingSoon) that, in a recent interview, Snyder said: “I don’t think I’d be interested in [directing it]…I’m a huge Star Wars fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort.” Let’s note, however, that Snyder passed on Man of Steel before taking it on. Also, no one asked you, Snyder, jeez.

Our next denier? Quentin Tarantino, another director who didn’t manage to pop up on too many wish lists for the gig. No matter! When asked about the project, Tarantino told EW (via ComingSoon), “I could so care less…Especially if Disney’s going to do it. I’m not interested in the Simon West version of Star Wars.” Burn?

And, finally, a director who has actually been rumored for the gig and one who might actually make sense for the project – Steven Spielberg. Asked by Access Hollywood if he could possibly direct any of the new Star Wars films, he responded (far more graciously than either Snyder or Tarantino): “No! No! It’s not my genre. It’s my best friend George’s genre.” Oh, that’s sweet.

And that wraps up today’s edition of Rumors We’re Stuck With For At Least a Few More Weeks, So Help Us, God.
