Pretty much every outlet out there is running a headline leading you to believe that the next Friday the 13th installment will involve snow in some manner.  Many of the headlines would have you believe the entire movie will take place in some snowy destination, while the more tame of the group go on to clarify that at some point in the film there might be some snow.

Most of this news is coming from a set visit to A Nightmare on Elm Street that I totally wasn’t invited to where a couple of our writerly friends spoke to Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.  Ryan Rotten of ShockTillYouDrop had this quote:

“If we’re going to do another Friday the 13th we want to present something audiences haven’t seen before and one of the things they haven’t seen before is Jason in the snow. We just want to bring things they haven’t seen before,” although that does not mean, “the [entire] movie will not be set in the snow.”

Which would lead us to believe that snow will somehow be involved.  But because we’re tight like that, we also checked in with another set visitor, Frosty from Collider who had a more in depth transcript of his talk with the producing duo which yielded:

Brad: (laughs) No, I can tell you this, the movie itself will not take place in the snow.  I don’t want to sit in Winnipeg with him for two months in the snow.

So where does that leave us in regards to snow?  That there may or may not be some degree of snow in the next installment.  Is that news or is that news?  The answer is C: It’s not news.  Besides, fans of the comics will know that Jason has appeared in snow before – like in Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. There was a treatment floating around a year or mor ago for a Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie that was turned into some fan Flash work that also featured the bad guy in the snow.

Without a completed script and with Brad and Andrew apparently indifferent to the snow, though filming late in the year and not against snow itself, who the hell knows or cares what will happen with this?  All you need to know is that, if they have their way, Friday the 13th Part 2 will hit theaters on August 13th, 2010, but even that is unconfirmed.  Please go ahead and check out the full stories from ShockTillYouDrop and Collider for a bit more information (especially from Collider’s lengthy transcription) because we like those guys.
