There’s been a lot of talk (mostly by Neil Miller) about Sasha Grey‘s upcoming film The Girlfriend Experience for director Steven Soderbergh. It’s not her film debut by any means, it may not end up being her highest grossing release, and I guarantee it won’t be her widest opening… but it’s being called her first non-porn effort. That may be the case, but it’s not the only one.
Grey is also starring in Lee Demarbre’s horror/comedy Smash Cut as an actress starring in a horror film… The film’s poster and trailer have recently been unveiled over at Twitch, and between the two the opportunities for jokes about Grey giving handjobs or head are endless. Luckily we here at FSR are above such behavior, and besides, I already made a crack at Grey’s wide opening above. The film’s synopsis (per Twitch) and trailer are below.
After his latest “serious” film is met with gales of laughter, Able (David Hess) decides to drown his sorrows at a local strip club—where he meets dancer GIGI SPOT. Minutes later, he’s convinced the honey dripping sex-pot to star in his next project. Minutes after that, he’s killed her in a drunk driving accident. Needing to dispose of the body, Able stumbles upon the one place nobody would notice a corpse…spread around the set of his new horror film. When the response to this new footage is praised for its realism, the guilt ridden Able has a complete mental breakdown. Believing he has finally discovered the key to making a great horror film, the director quickly discovers that one human body doesn’t yield a lot of parts, and if he wants to finish, he’s going to have to keep on killing.”
So it’s obviously not a studio picture, but it does hold a certain degree of charm. Demarbre has crafted Smash Cut as an ode to legendary director H.G. Lewis (who also co-stars), and while Lewis’ movies have never been what you would call “good” I guess it’s the thought that counts. At the very least we get to see Michael “Hills Have Eyes” Berryman in a very convincing wig.
What do you think of the trailer? Do you have a favorite Sasha Grey movie?
