Solid and twisty thrillers are in short supply these days.  More often than not current “suspense” films will rely on big names or hefty promotion to get asses in seats only to discover the actual movie is unoriginal, predictable, and bland.  A new trailer for A Perfect Getaway has just premiered online, and while it’s too early to tell for sure, it looks like writer/director David Twohy may have a winner.  Check out the trailer.

Looks pretty solid doesn’t it?  Twohy has a long history of entertaining films he’s written and/or directed including The Fugitive, Pitch Black, Below, Critters 2, The Arrival, and many more.  The cast is also pretty reliable… Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant, and Milla Jovovich are all personable and exciting actors.  Also starring is Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, in his first film role since Star Trek.  The IMDB synopsis is below:

Cliff and Cydney (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe theyve found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back. Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins.

Hawaii is a beautiful backdrop for any film genre, but the vast jungles and rocky cliff side beaches also provide the perfect setting for danger and suspense.  The cast is big enough too to make the film a guessing game as to who knows what and who’ll survive.  But while the movie looks to cast suspicion on the two other couples… I’m going on record now to predict that Zahn and Jovovich are the real killers.

A Perfect Getaway opens August 14th. You can also check out the trailer in HD over at Yahoo Movies.
