Movie News After Dark: The Avengers Continue to Dominate and Cosplay is Dead

What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly column dedicated to movie news and links, written hastily this evening because its author is due to get in line and see The Avengers at a midnight show. Please excuse errors in spelling, grammar, logic and common sense — beyond the usual, of course.

We begin with a new shot of The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man. He’s holding Peter Parker’s camera, which he will likely crush in a sign of his abject disrespect for the young spiderkund. He’s quite scaly.

This Section is The Avengers‘ Section

We all know that Samuel L. Jackson is not to be messed with. However, we were not aware that giving one of his movies a lukewarm to negative review would incur his wrath. It’s not exactly snakes on his flight home, but A.O. Scott was not interested in loving The Avengers along with the smelly legions of fankind. So Samuel L. Jackson took Scott to task on Twitter. See, I told you that Twitter was a bad idea.

Over at Movieline, Brad Slager collects the weirdest Avengers merchandise tie-ins. I want that custom desk.

Screen Crush’s ever-talented Melissa Molina gives you a list of 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Marvel’s The Avengers.

LA Weekly recaps 12 awesome artworks of the Marvel Gallery at Gallery 1988. Some of it gets a little odd. All of it is a little awesome.

Luke McKinney at Cracked delivers 6 Ways Iron Man Is Objectively Better Than Batman. A dangerous proposition, but he explains himself quite well.

Tomorrow at an unknown time, the folks at Mondo will release the final poster in their Avengers series, an assembled piece of art from Tyler Stout. Even though it’s Stout continuing to apply his usual formula, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t look great on your wall. Does it, fellow nerds?

This Is The Non-Avengers Section

Our friends at Screen Rant have launched a new column after my own heart — Geek Picks — by Justin Vactor. It collects nerdy things. Similar to what you’re seeing here, only it’s all superheroes, Star Wars and cosplay. News After Dark prides itself on its love to Lars von Trier and Werner Herzog, as well.

Robert Rodriguez has added Amber Heard to Machete Kills. She’ll play an assassin named Miss San Antonio.

Lifehacker explains how you can see a movie before it’s released. Surprisingly, start a movie blog and weasel your way onto press lists is not on there, despite the effectiveness of such a path.

io9 would like you to know that Star Trek is where your favorite creators went to grad school. Unless your favorite creator was God. He went to Stanford.

There’s One More Avengers-related Thing…

As BAD’s Devin Faraci rightfully explains, Everybody Else Can Quit Cosplaying Now, this guy and his Iron Man suit have one it forever.
