Watch: The Barren Beauty of the ‘Meek’s Cutoff’ Trailer

Meek’s Cutoff hit the festival circuit hard and received a strong amount of praise for its visual style and its look at lives on the line in the desert of 1845 Oregon. Michelle Williams leads a fantastic cast including Paul Dano, Bruce Greenwood, Zoe Kazan, Neal Huff, and Will Patton in what appears to be Oregon Trail: The Movie if everything went wrong and you couldn’t trust the person you depended on the most.

Check out the trailer for yourself:

This trailer showcases the film as a naked look at human failing and ambition when the gravest consequences are on the line. A clear villain emerges and almost overshadows the real villain: the elements.

Wendy and Lucy was truly indulgent lifeless storytelling, but it looks like with a plot to work with, Kelly Reichardt may have found her footing here for a hell of a movie.

At the very least, it’s a chance to see Paul Dano in some Western Wear before Cowboys & Aliens comes out.

Meek’s Cutoff is in select theaters April 8th.
