Paris based newspaper Le Figaro is reporting that actress Marion Cotillard has signed on to be in director Christopher Nolan’s third and final film in his Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises. The report would seem to be credible as Cotillard has been rumored to be signing to the film for quite some time, a rash of other signings has happened over the past couple weeks, and Cotillard already has a relationship with Nolan having worked with him just last year in Inception.

What might make the report questionable is the fact that Cotillard is currently pregnant. But as Le Figaro explains, “L’actrice, qui attend un enfant pour le printemps avec Guillaume Canet, va se faire rare cette année. Elle ne tournera qu’un seul film. Son choix s’est porté sur Batman 3.” If my four semesters of college French and my one week hanging out in Paris have treated me well, that roughly says that her baby is due in the spring, she’s only going to be doing one film this year because of the pregnancy, and she’s decided to make that one film the third Batman. Don’t worry, I’m perfectly qualified to make these assessments: I have a picture of myself standing next to the Eiffel Tower and everything. Seeing as Nolan has already stated that shooting starts in May, that would make an early spring baby and a late spring movie shoot possible. Cotillard seems like she comes from good genes, with the right amount of moxy I bet she can squeeze one out in April and get this thing done.

Even before the signing was reported there was a lot of Internet speculation that Cotillard was up for the role of Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Liam Neeson’s villain from Batman Begins. Similar speculation has postulated that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of mob boss Carmine Falcone, who also appeared in Batman Begins and was played by Tom Wilkinson. That is all well and good, but I would like to take this time to speculate that Cotillard will actually be playing a female version of Amygdala and Gordon-Levitt the KGBeast. Factor in Tom Hardy playing Bane and that’s a lot of muscle for one movie. I can’t wait!

Update: THR has confirmed with Cotillard’s reps that she is, indeed, in discussions to join the production. As for the pregnancy issue, she wouldn’t start filming until June. With her due date in Spring, this should give he ample time to prepare and shoot throughout the late summer and fall, with a November wrap anticipated.
