What is Casting Couch? A new day, a new set of casting updates. And—you guys—you’re going to want to pay attention to this one. We’ve got Michael Fassbender news.
One of the most memorable characters from the ‘Little Orphan Annie’ comic strips was Annie’s father figure, benefactor, and get out of jail free card, Daddy Warbucks. Warbucks was a man of means, said to be worth upwards of “ten zillion dollars,” but he was a self-made man who always preached the importance of working hard and putting back into the free market. If an actor were going to adequately portray Warbucks in a film adaptation of the Annie story, he would necessarily have to bring all kinds of swagger. That’s probably why Will Gluck is looking at Jamie Foxx to play a version of the character in his upcoming take on the Annie property. THR is reporting that Foxx is currently in negotiations to join Quvenzhane Wallis in the film as Benjamin Stacks, an even more absurdly named update on the Warbucks concept. This one’s definitely got Jay-Z’s fingerprints all over it.
Have you ever pictured Colin Firth as the hard-nosed, ass-kicking type? Perhaps not, but it’s a fun thing to do regardless. And it’s a visual that we’re likely going to get to see play out on the big screen in a real way, as The Latino Review is reporting that Firth has been chosen to play one of the lead roles in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming adaptation of the Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic book “The Secret Service.” If everything pans out like is being said, Firth will be portraying Uncle Jack, a hard-nosed MI6 operative who’s trying to train his slacker nephew how to man up and get into the spy game. Can Firth pull this sort of character off? Of course he can, he’s one of the best actors on the planet.
Christina Ricci looks to be close to landing a new job. THR is reporting that she’s currently negotiating to star in an indie thriller from director Geoffrey Sax (White Noise) called Unmasked. The fairly vague description of the film’s plot given is that it’s about a man who joins a “dangerous and mysterious club” in order to relive the worst day of his life. Given Ricci’s involvement, can we just go ahead and assume that the worst day of his life was when he got dumped by Christina Ricci? Probably not. We’ll likely have to wait until the male lead gets cast to hear more about what Ricci’s going to be doing here.
Whether it was because people just can’t get enough ghost stories or because people just can’t get enough Harry Potter, the Daniel Radcliffe-starring ghost story The Woman in Black ended up doing well at the box office. And even though the film tied up all of its loose ends pretty thoroughly, you know what a movie doing well at the box office means—sequel! Variety is reporting that a followup to the film, called The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, is currently being put together, and that War Horse star Jeremy Irvine and Switch actress Phoebe Fox have been cast as its leads. This one will be directed by Tom Harper, and is said to be based on a story by original “The Woman in Black” author Susan Hill that details goings on at the Eel Marsh House four decades after the original story takes place.
A new thriller about a group of miners trapped in a collapse called Beneath has begun its principal photography, and that’s notable because the same press release [via ShockTillYouDrop] that announced the film’s existence also revealed its principal cast, and it’s a cast that’s being head up by the all-time king of exposed chest hair, Jeff Fahey. Welcome mat of chest follicles aside, the announcement also states that Kelly Noonan and Joey Kern both have lead roles as well, and that they’re being supported by a cast that includes Brent Briscoe, Rene Rivera, Mark L. Young, Kurt Caseres, David Shackelford, Ashway Lawver, and Jason Masek. Of course, while a movie about a group of miners going crazy underground sounds like it could be interesting, this was all really just an excuse to post a picture of Fahey’s chest hair.
Who’s everyone’s favorite actor? If you didn’t answer Michael Fassbender, then you’re wrong. He’s objectively the most talented and charismatic man on the planet, and Screen Daily is reporting that he’s next going to be utilizing his skills in order to raise the work of William Shakespeare up to a new level that its never reached before. The scoop is that Fassbender is teaming up with director Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) to put together a new version of Macbeth, that tragic play about witches and murders and whatnot. Reportedly, the search is currently on for an actress to play the scheming femme fatale of the film, Lady Macbeth, and given Fassbender’s involvement, it should come as no surprise that there’s already reportedly a big name Hollywood starlet who has expressed interest. Get in line, lady.
