Highest-Paid Actresses in Hollywood: Angelina Jolie’s Still Got It

Angelina Jolie

Two weeks ago, I told you that Robert Downey Jr. was the real Tony Stark when it was revealed that he was the highest-paid actor in Hollywood after having made a unfathomable $75m between June 2012 and June 2013. Now, Forbes has released their list of highest-paid actresses, and it appears that Angelina Jolie is supreme queen, raking in $33m in the same time period.

Despite not having a huge film in theaters for over three years (2010’s The Tourist with Johnny Depp), Jolie’s starpower is apparently enough to keep her at the top of the chart. She was able to nab a paycheck north of $15m for next summer’s Maleficent, and did well with her writing and directing venture, the Bosnian war drama In the Land of Blood and Honey. Jolie is a bonafide movie star in that she even outranks The Girl on Fire by $7m.

Jennifer Lawrence had an insane 2012, and with $26m in her pocket 2013 is probably looking even better. Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, and ushered in a new era of Hunger Games mania as Our Lady of Badassery, Katniss Everdeen. The Hunger Games made $690m off a $80m budget, and though Lawrence made less than $1m for the first film, her paycheck was promptly bumped up following its success. Go girl. Not to mention, Lawrence is also part of the X-Men franchise as young Mystique, and received earnings from those films as well.

In third place is Kristen Stewart, who escaped the Twilight franchise with $22m to spare in 2012-2013. Stewart also made Snow White and the Huntsman last year, which did well at the box office, as well as the small flick On the Road. Forbes notes that Stewart likely won’t stay on the list for long unless she gets back into a Twilight-type franchise (geez).

Coming in fourth is Jennifer Aniston with $20m, which Forbes asserts is mostly from Friends residuals? Syndication is where the sweet, sweet dollars at. Fifth place belongs to Emma Stone at $16m, and it seems that she will continue to climb the ranks. With her involvement in the Amazing Spiderman franchise, and a slew of adorable comedies under her belt, the paychecks are going to keep coming.

Here’s the full Top 10 list:

1. Angelina Jolie, $33m

2. Jennifer Lawrence, $26m

3. Kristen Stewart, $22m

4. Jennifer Aniston, $20m

5. Emma Stone, $16m

6. Charlize Theron, $15m

7. Sandra Bullock, $14m

8. Natalie Portman, $14m

9. Mila Kunis, $11m

10. Julia Roberts, $11m

Why do the top actresses in get paid so much less then the top actors? Angelina Jolie, the top-ranked actress, only makes $1m more than the #10 actor. It’s disheartening to see that the glass ceiling is fully intact in Hollywood.

In childhood, Samantha had a Mary Katherine Gallagher-esque flair for the dramatic, as well as the same penchant for Lifetime original movies. And while she can still quote the entire monologue from A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story, her tastes in film have luckily changed. During an interview, director Tommy Wiseau once called her a “good reporter, but not that intimidating if we’re being honest.” She once lived in Chinatown and told her neighbor Jake to “forget it” so many times that he threatened to stop talking to her.
