Hayley Atwell Cast as Captain America’s War-Era Dame

Hayley Atwell

Late last week, as rumors swirled about who would play the damsel to the hero in Captain America, many pundits seemed fixated on Alice Eve, the star of the recent Paramount release She’s Out of My League. She was the bigger name of the candidates remaining after the likes of Emily Blunt and Keira Knightley dropped out. But she wasn’t alone — there was one other name on that list: Hayley Atwell. As it turns out, it will be Ms. Atwell who will be sharing screen time with Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers.

Heat Vision has confirmed that Marvel Studios has chosen Atwell to play the British love interest Peggy Carter, a World War II era lady who — at least in comics — was not only a love interest, but also an agent for the French resistance. She would later become the aunt of Sharon Carter, Steve Rogers’ love interest in modern times (you know, after he’s thawed out).

Atwell has most recently starred in AMC’s mini-series The Prisoner and in the 2007 period drama The Duchess alongside Keira Knightley. Otherwise she’s a relative unknown, leaving her piece of the puzzle a mystery until we see her in action. I’ll give you this — she’s certainly easy on the eyes.
