Friday the 13th: Jason Voorhees Appears Unmasked!

The folks over at have posted a few pictures from the set of Platinum Dunes’ upcoming remake of Friday the 13th, many of which feature an unmasked Jason Voorhees. The character, played in this film by Derek Mears, a noted big-man and stunt performer in Hollywood, was played originally in 1980 by Ari Lehman.

This incarnation is directed by Marcus Nispel, who is the man responsible for bringing back The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for producer Michael Bay in 2003. And personally, I was impressed by that remake in that it was an intense experience, but it otherwise did not really live up to the original in the eyes of many fans. The Friday the 13th remake, on the other hand, appears to be getting a lot of great buzz from the horror community, including our own resident horror expert and rageaholic Robert Fure, who reported in with cast interviews at Comic-Con.
