We first became hip to the upcoming straight-to-DVD action comedy Operation: Endgameearlier this week with the release of the film’s green band trailer. To be honest, I’ve been ignoring it for a few weeks in my email inbox because I’m too lazy to read about it. But once I got around to watching the trailer, I was interested. It combines Rob Corddry, hot off some humorous moments in Hot Tub Time Machine with the likes of Zach Galifianakis, Adam Scott, Ellen Barkin, Bob Odenkirk, Odette Yustman, Emelie de Ravin and that guy Joe Anderson, who was awesome in The Crazies. When combined with some action and some laughs in the trailer, it all has me wondering why the heck this is being released straight to DVD.
Find out why after the jump…
The plot goes something like this: “Operation: Endgame centers around two rival teams of government assassins, who work out of a top-secret underground facility and use code names from the Tarot deck. When new hire “The Fool” (Anderson) joins the group, he arrives for his first day only to discover that the boss has been murdered and the office has been locked down and turned into a ticking time bomb. He must survive his ambitious co-workers, find the killer, and discover a way out before the whole place explodes.”
Corporate politics meet corporate espionage meet Zach Galifianakis as a hit-man who had to get out of the business because he became a diabetic. Are you seeing the potential here? Beyond that, the cast is electric — as I mentioned — and I’m not just talking about the bolts of lighting sent through every man’s body in the presence of Odette Yustman. We’re talking bonafide comedic talent here — Jeffrey Tambor, Adam Scott and Bob Odenkirk, whose resurgence on Breaking Bad as a skeezy lawyer has been absolute perfection. I’m attracted to this cast. And I think the premise has promise.
So I went in search of some materials and the folks at Anchor Bay were more than happy to oblige. They would like you to know that Operation: Endgame is going to hit stores on Blu-ray and DVD July 27, 2010. It’s only fair that I mention that, seeing as they did send over the red band trailer and an exclusive clip for me to share with all of you. Both should give you the giggles, which is exactly what the world needs. Have a look for yourself below.
