Disney Studio Visit: Letter Writing 101

Walt Disney Animation StudiosDuring my recent visit to the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, I had a chance to see – and touch – a part of Disney history. Resident Disney historian David Smith gave the press a peek at some of the correspondence between Walt Disney and Dodie Smith, the author of the original book “The One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

While the letters from Walt Disney were carbon copies from 1961 (as the originals are with Mrs. Smith’s estate in England), the letters to Disney are the originals.

These letters are included in part on the 2-disc Platinum Edition DVD release of 101 Dalmatians. Lisa Davis, who voiced the character of Anita in the film, reads the letters from Dodie Smith to Walt Disney on the DVD in the section entitled “Sincerely Yours, Walt Disney.”

You can catch a little preview of the letters in the pictures below (Click to Enlarge):

Kevin Carr crawled from the primordial ooze in the early 1970s. He grew up watching movies to the point of irritation for his friends and was a font of useless movie knowledge until he decided to put that knowledge to good use. Now, Kevin is a nationally syndicated critic, heard on dozens of radio stations around the country, and his reviews appear in a variety of online outlets. Kevin is also a proud member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS), and the Central Ohio Film Critics Association (COFCA).
