Milla Jovovich stars in Screen Gems' action horror RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE.

What is Casting Couch? It’s casting news the way you like it: short and to the point. Today Paul Thomas Anderson has decided who he wants as the female lead of his next project, Inherent Vice. Read on to find out who he chose.

You can’t make a new Expendables movie without rounding up a new crop of old action stars to join the dream team, otherwise you’d just be making a dumb movie about a bunch of people who have already teamed up, and who wants to dream about that? So, who’s going to be joining Sylvester Stallone’s crew of gun-toting retirees for The Expendables 3? Over the past few months we’ve heard rumors that names like Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, and Nicolas Cage were being sought after, and a new report from The Wrap confirms that they are all indeed negotiating to join the film, along with Resident Evil veteran Milla Jovovich, who isn’t quite as old as everyone else in the crew, but who probably gets a pass because she’s a chick. Clearly only men are allowed to look old on camera, so any ladies from the 80s are out.dashes

Forest Whitaker

Forest Whitaker

Also out of The Wrap is the news that Forest Whitaker is in talks to play Martin Luther King Jr. in Paul Greengrass’ upcoming Memphis, which will recreate MLK’s last few days using the same documentary-like aesthetic Greengrass employed in United 93. Whitaker famously won an Oscar for his portrayal of real-life warlord Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, so there’s no telling how many Oscars he might win if he ends up portraying a historical figure as recognizable and beloved as MLK. Let’s just round it up and say that he’ll win probably 8 Oscars.dashes

Melissa Leo

Melissa Leo

Speaking of people who have won Oscars, Melissa Leo is getting another job. Deadline is reporting that she’s looking to reunite with her Olympus Has Fallen director, Antoine Fuqua, to take a featured role in his upcoming project, The Equalizer. This is that one that’s starring Denzel Washington and is based off of that old TV show about a secret agent who becomes a mercenary for hire. Leo will reportedly be playing the suit who used to handle Washington’s character when he was in the agency and who now feeds him information when he needs it, thus finally giving us the first ever positive portrayal of a pencil-pushing bureaucrat in media.dashes

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg

What the heck is Whoopi Goldberg doing on the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Not playing the new robotic body of pan-dimensional brain-being Krang, unfortunately. That would be awesome. According to a source from Comic Book Movie, she’s busy playing the role of Bernadette Thompson, who is the head honcho over at this movie’s version of Channel 6 News. That would make her the demanding, ninja turtle-hating boss of both Megan Fox’s April O’Neil as well as Will Arnett’s Vernon Fenwick, for those unfamiliar with Channel 6 News.dashes

Leven Rambin

Leven Rambin

If you think you recognize Leven Rambin, but you’re not sure from where, possibly it’s from her role in The Hunger Games, or maybe it’s even from her appearances on The Sarah Connor Chronicles. For your sake, hopefully it’s not from Chasing Mavericks. Anyway, Deadline is reporting that this promising young actress has just landed two new gigs. She’s going to be playing the girlfriend in Seven Minutes, a movie about a star athlete whose career-ending injury leads to his starting a life of crime, as well as the girlfriend in Walter, which is a movie about a guy who believes that he’s the son of God. These roles should give her ample opportunity to practice looking concerned while other people get to do interesting things. Oh, Hollywood.dashes

Katherine Waterston

Katherine Waterston

What’s the biggest role for a lady actor in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice? Deadline is reporting that it’s the character of Shasta, who is the—say it with me—girlfriend of Joaquin Phoenix’s Doc. Well, ex-girlfriend technically, but you get the point. Anyway, Anderson being Anderson, he could probably get anyone in the industry to play this part, but who he’s chosen is a relatively unknown actress named Katherine Waterston, who has had small roles in things like Michael Clayton, Robot & Frank, and Boardwalk Empire. If Anderson likes her, then presumably she must have quite a bit of talent that hasn’t yet had a spotlight shone on it. What a treat it will be for us, then, to watch it get revealed.
